General Description

Shakespeare’s fun and fast-paced Much Ado About Nothing revolves around friends who play tricks on each other via gossip. As honorable Claudius and lovely Hero fall in love, Beatrice and Benedick banter back and forth, continuing their old “merry war.” When friends with less going on get bored, they decide to meddle in the affairs of both pairs by having them overhear some gossip. This “noting” by Claudius, Hero, Beatrice, and Benedick results in enormous misunderstandings—some favorable, some not.
